Default Tracking of tools and equipment.

What kind of program do you use to track your tools and equipment? At one time we used a tool tracker bar scan program but it became too cumbersome and became a pain. We move pretty fast in this industry, so how do you track what is out on you sites?

We use an Excel program that was created by the owner to track what tools are out on site. I haven't gotten to in depth with it so I don't know exactly it works.

Has anyone used any of the barcode/tagging systems out there?

Yeah, I couldn’t think of the name at the time I started the topic, but it was Tool Watch. It was an expensive system, than you had to keep buying upgrades yearly to keep up.

I am not sure if it was the person we had in charge or the system itself. Either way it worked for a while and then it just became a pain.

As you know in this biz, people want you in and out; I think that is where the “system” failed. When you move and a fast pace and tools are moving from site to site…..

That's what i figured. When the tools rarely make it back to the barn, it kinda defeats the purpose of in/out tracking.

Yes and no, at least you would know what crews were losing your tools.

I think if you had a good tool person they could run the system. Like I said I am not sure if it was the system or the person in charge of the system.
