Atlas Copco’s LHD 23 M hydraulic rock drill is ideal for drilling blast, anchor and rock-splitting holes. Lightweight and portable, the drill is used by construction and utility contractors, public service departments and military engineers to provide efficient drilling without the need for large compressors.
At a weight of 54 pounds, the LHD 23 M is maneuverable and provides a high power-to-weight ratio for maximum productivity. A hydraulic motor built into the drill produces 48 foot pounds of torque, which is needed for drilling with spiral hammer drills and when drilling into segmented rocks or reinforced concrete. Operator kickback is prevented by a built-in torque limiter, allowing for easier handling and safer operation.
Energy generated by the rock drill produces an impact rate of 2,400 to 3,000 blows per minute, helping to complete jobs more quickly. The LHD 23 M can drill a diameter of up to 2 inches when used with standard integral steel. When provided with a hydraulic supply and a small compressor for flushing out the drill hole, the LHD 23 M can drill to a depth of 20 feet. A depth of 3.3 feet can be reached without air flushing. The drill can be connected to most air compressors if air flushing is needed.
Standard rotation of the LHD 23 M is clockwise, although counterclockwise rotation is optional to allow the use of drills with screw-on drill bits. Drill operation requires an oil flow of 5.3 to 6.6 gallons per minute.
Optimum operation for the rock drill is achieved when powered by a carrier with hydraulic capabilities or by one of a wide range of hydraulic power packs. These packs feature a power-on-demand system that automatically decreases the pack’s engine speed when the tool is disengaged, reducing fuel consumption and extending the life of the power pack.
The LHD 23 M comes standard with a 1.3-foot hydraulic twin hose, which is complete with screw couplings for connection to the drill and flat-face quick-release couplings for connection to the power pack hose or to the twin extension hose. An optional oil flow divider and extension hoses are available for running the drill off hydraulic-powered carriers.
