Caterpillar and JLG® Celebrate First North American Delivery of New Line of Telehandl
In mid November the first telehandlers manufactured by JLG Industries, Inc. and branded with the Caterpillar® name were delivered to Cashman Equipment, the Caterpillar dealer based in North Las Vegas, Nev. The delivery marks a milestone in the strategic alliance agreement announced in October 2005 by Caterpillar and JLG.
More than 100 new Cat® telehandlers had shipped from the JLG plant in McConnellsburg, Penn., when Caterpillar, JLG and Cashman representatives celebrated the first deliveries on November 16 at the North Las Vegas store.
“This is a big day for Caterpillar and JLG,” said Scott Cooper, Caterpillar Marketing Manager for the telehandler alliance group for North and South America. “The new telehandlers are tailored to the needs of contractors in North America, and they are fully supported by Caterpillar—parts inventory, service, warranties and Cat Financial programs. These machines are even shipping ahead of schedule.”
“JLG is pleased to be working with Caterpillar and supplying its dealers with a range of products that recognize the differences in the ways that telehandlers are used in different parts of the world,” said Mike Rafi, General Manager of the Caterpillar Alliance Group for JLG. “JLG is the world’s leading producer of telehandlers and aerial work platforms, which positions us well to fill these needs for Caterpillar and Cat dealers.”
JLG is supplying six models of new Cat telehandlers to North and South America. The new TL Series includes four models based on JLG-branded designs and incorporating Caterpillar components. The TL642, TL943, TL1055 and TL1255 have a capacity range of 6,500 pounds to 12,000 pounds and maximum lift heights of 42 feet to 55 feet. The TL1255 increases the maximum lift capacity, when compared to the previous Caterpillar line, by 1,000 pounds. All four models are manufactured in Pennsylvania.
Two Cat TH models, the TH220B and TH330B, will be supplied from JLG’s manufacturing facility in Maasmechelen, Belgium. Those models are Caterpillar designs and offer capacities of 7,000 pounds and 8,000 pounds and maximum lift heights of 20 feet and 24 feet, respectively.
To date Cashman has placed the largest order in North America for the new telehandlers.
“We are replacing the existing rental fleet composed of the last generation of Caterpillar telehandlers,” said Todd Gilligan, Sales Manager, southern region for Cashman. “We also are planning to increase our market share in sales and rental, especially in the Las Vegas and Reno areas—and we are optimistic that these new machines will help us do that.”
