Default Experiences with hydro-demolition?

I am putting together a bid package for a project I am looking at for a small private airport. They have some damaged panels that they would like to replace. The owners want to look a couple of different options and he saw hydro-demolition being performed on TV on a bridge rehab project and wants to find out the good and the bad. I have only seen these machines on TV and video before, but never in a “real” life situation. Has anyone had any experience with hydro-demolition? What are some of the pitfalls? Any information would be helpful.

Thanks

One of my buddies owns a hydro demolition company. 95% of his work is on parking structures. From what he told me the big problem is the volume of water generated and the disposal of the wastewater. What kind of panels are they? Precast? I have to talk to him soemtime today concerning another project so if you need any info I will get it for you. I think he even has some sample specs if it helps.

Robert,

Sorry I have been in meetings yesterday and today. If your friend has some sample specs that would be fantastic if I could get a copy. I figured the water would be the biggest “problem”. Also the panels are cast-in-place. I have done a similar project and we used an excavator with a breaker.

On one project we fabricated a lifting jig and picked them off and set them right down on the truck. It was slicker than whale shit on an ice floe.
Our scanner is on the fritz but I will get the specs to you somehow.

James,
I have the paper copies but I found a website that lists the specs also.

Thanks for the link. The site has some good specs on it. I will use them as a template.
