RIP Walter Remak James' Grandfather

As some of you may or may not know, a little over month ago my Grandfather collapse and fell damaging his eye socket and had several bleeds in his brain.

About 2 weeks ago he was released from the hospital and was placed in a 24 hr care facility. About week ago he suffered a couple of minor strokes.

Sadly and peacefully he passed away on Friday (June 1st)

Walter whom lived to the age of 91 loved his family and horse racing. He was always there to make you laugh and had great stories to tell.

He owned several race horses for as far back as I can remember. I remember going to the rack track on several occasions, where he took us back to stables to see all the horses being trained and where we got meet several of the jockeys. This is when I was about 10 and I still remember that I was about as tall as all the jockeys.

His death preceded by his wife, Elsie in November 1990.

He was a great man and will be truly missed.

This year, while attending to an allergic reaction in a hospital in Knoxville for my wife Lisa, we heard her grandma passed away. She was 95! I think any time past 90 is a blessing.
She died 1 year after her husband of 73 years.
It was always a joy to sit and listen to their stories. We always think we have it tough when our computers don't work!
I hope he was a Christian...he'll be in a great place!

Yep he lived a good life. As my uncle said at his funereal: He had 90 great years, a half of a not so good year and a couple of bad weeks.

James, our condolences for your loss. I know no matter how long someone is with us it is always hard when they go.

Well I received some great news today.

Emerald Downs, our local horse race-track, is honoring my grandfather on Sunday, August 13th with a race: The Walter Remak Memorial; the race will hopefully become an annual race at the track.

I know my Grandfather is looking down smiling, because this is the way he would wanted to be honored. Even though he was a very shy person.
