Silver dimes, quarters and half-dollars minted for several decades until the mid-1960s are not considered collectable for their rarity are now worth – as scrap -550% above face value. Web site coinfliction.com says even the all-copper penny made from 1959 to 1982 and still in general circulation today contains 1.4 cents of the metal. These days the US Mint is a lot chintzier. The mostly zinc penny is worth a half-cent, while new dimes and quarters are marked up eight times the intrinsic value. Worst deal of all: the Sacagawea dollar, valued at 3.7 cents.
Its getting crazy. The prices for metals just keeps climbing and climbing. If you have a job with a lot of copper on it now, you should be making some pretty good money.
