Default Golf tips for a newbie

My wife signed me up for a golf tourney on Saturday, although I have never played before. Her company is putting it on and the needed a couple more players.

I have gone to the range and hacked some balls there and the usual mini golf

It’s a closet to the pin tourney

Any tips you can give me?

Fill you club bag with cans of beer. You'll make lots of friends.

Also, go for the "high score" trophy in that tournament. You'll be sure to have the most fun of all.

And don't forget to wear loud plaid pants, with a web belt with whales on it.

Seriously, have fun and don't worry about it. (But don't forget to replace your divits, especially if it's a fancy course.)

Wear a kilt!
I've been playing golf since high school; I like to think of my playing style as military in nature. Left, right, left, right...

Thanks Guys!

I am actually starting to look forward to it now. I am still looking for some pants, I am heading to the thrift store today to see if I can find some.

James, you'll have a blast. Just relax, have fun, enjoy the beauty of the course, and please, don't hit your wife's boss with any balls (or your clubs, for that matter.) By the way, is she playing too? Sure hope so. Enjoy yourself, go for the high score trophy, and a great weekend to all.

(We expect a full report on Monday, Tiger.)

HOLY CRAP! I think I am hooked, about as much as my golf balls were flying on Saturday!

Let me just say this, 4 Jäger-bombs, 3 Jägermeister shots, 4 Vodka Tonics, 2 balls in the woods, 3 in the drink (hence the shots), scratches on my leg from being a passenger in the cart that drove to close to some raspberry bushes, and a bruise on my leg where I have now idea where it came from.

We shot 4 over for the day. We started out great with 4 straight pars and 1 birdie! Well by then the beer lady had made her second stop with us, and the rest is history.

Ha, ha, ha.

You are a real golfer now, James.

Country club membership can't be far off now . . .

And about those plaid pants . . .

James, you might look for something like this:
Academy of Golf | Overview
I did this one a few years ago when i realized my body had changed so much that I needed to adjust my swing. They video you and do a swing analysis vs. an optimal swing. It's pretty interesting to see all of the bad habits you learn into your swing.
