Well, Verizon finally got around to installing the fiber optic cable to my neighborhood. They actually have the stub at the end of our driveway which is about 1/4 mile long. When I read the paperwork on getting the service I was amazed that one of the conditions of the contract is that Verizon has to remove all your copper cable. It seems to me there is something patently wrong with that. I asked the Verizon phone people if they could just abandon the existing phone line but they said unequivecably that they couldn't.
A neighbor recently had Verizon install the fiber to his house and was told they had to remove all copper connections, which they did. A few day's later I ran into a local commiteewoman who signed the local contract with Verizon and she told me under the agreement Verizon was not allowed to remove any cables.
The Verizon sales guy knocked on my door last night. I decided to switch from Comcast to Verizon. I'll keep you posted. I did ask if they were going to remove the copper Comcast cable and he told me that they would leave it in place, he did say they would remove their copper phone line would be removed. I'm scheduled for installation 8/24/07.
