Default GPS Monitoring

Anyone out there using GPS monitoring in their fleet vehicles, or equipment?
The technology will report in intervals as close to 4 minutes.
Equipment hours can be monitored from the office.

Has it helped curtail expenses? Was it worth the investment?

Along with being able to track the hours between service on each vehicle they track where each vehicle is located at any given time, I know that this feature helps in the turn around of the vehicles to different job sites. As for our equipment we only monitor them by written reports handed in daily by each division.

We utilize the Sprint / Nextel based XORA system on the phones. It tracks the vehicles and the guys use the timecard feature. It works pretty well as we travel throughout the US.

All most all the new machines have an option that you can pourchase where not only can you track the physical location of the machine but you can also use it to monitor the engine temperature and oil pressure remotely.

I have used it in the past, mainly to track our roll-off trucks and saw cutting trucks, that way there were no arguments on how long a worker was at the job or the contractor stating they were late, I have the proof.

I find it a very helpful tool. We first had one install on a saw truck, without the operators knowledge, well by having it installed, we found out that he was working on the side during the weekends using our equipment.

It was put in our policy, that all company vehicles are installed with GPS systems.
