Office & BusinessIt’s all business here! License requirements, permits, hiring policies, employee problems, marketing and advertising, business development, computer hardware and software, websites, and more.
This time of the year is tough because everybody is trying to get their structures torn down and off the tax rolls.
We have been swamped this year. Our revenues have almost quadrupled and their is no let up in sight.
We experimented this summer and went to a 4 day work week. It worked like a champ so we will do the same next late spring/summer. Winter we work 5 days a week.
It was for everyone. We have 2 secretaries and one would have Monday off and the other would have Friday off so there was somebody always there to answer the phone.
The crews still had to work a couple of weekends. That is unavoidable in this business but they got an equal amount of comp time so it all works out.
On the estimating/engineering front don't have a problem with anybody working from home either. Because at the end of the day the bid is due when the bid is due. The internet has changed things.
I really like this idea. I know of a couple companies that have a couple of their estimators work from home and come into the office just once a week for a meeting. It not only saves the time of them driving, but it saves money on office space.
And it is true, the internet has really changed things. For the better in alot of cases.
