Default Is there room for another demolition association?

I have been approached a couple of times in the past year or so about group looking to start up another demolition association, with emphasis being to help the members with regulations and contracts and giving project leads.

This group would “target” the members whose companies range in that 2-10 million a year range.

I know that the NDA “helps” members, but only if you’re “in the club”. I know of many who have called to try and get some help and to date they are still waiting for the phone call back, some from over 18 months ago.

So I will put the question out to you guys. Do you think there is room for another association?

Why not approach the board of the NDA with the issue that the NDA is not really serving the companies in the 2-10 million a year range? Perhaps the NDA board would be willing to create a new division to handle the needs of that market, with an advisory board and a designated seat or two on the existing NDA board.

That way the guys in the middle range would be guaranteed a say and a vote as against the big guys "in the club." It seems that it might be more effective to try, at least to try at first, to work within the NDA, rather than to try to compete against them with a new upstart trade association. And I think the NDA would probably prefer to have it that way too, rather than to spawn a splinter spin off group. Just my 2 cents.

I would only assume they have approached them (NDA) about this.

I know when I work for a company that was a member, we really received nothing of “real value”, but we had to join because most, if not all of our competitors were members.

I think there is room for another in my opinion. I have gotten flyers and thought about joining for years , but for some reason the $500+ per yr. price tag has made me procrastonate. I dont think i am a tightwad , i can piddle away $500 on a night out on the town. But i must be a tightwad cause i have never signed up??

I think that's the rub. In comparison, the AGC membership prices are up there too, but you get access to plan rooms and reciprocal use if you are working in different states. Other then a few books and coffe mugs, the NDA doesn't have a tangible product. Just my two cents.

Well, I guess that is what I am saying. As a member, I never received a job lead, a phone call to see what they can do for us, nothing.

Although I do have a plaque and some stickers to show for my $$$$$.

I got some e-mails yesterday slamming me and that I am "anti-NDA" I just want to set the record straight, I am not Anti-NDA.

I just wish they would do more for their paying members. I believe there are several things that they can do to help not only themselves but their members, in the mean time it would probably would even get them more members.

That disturbs me that someone would slam you for being anti-NDA; we still live in a country where we have the right to question the efficacy of an organization. That is the only way ANY organization can continue to improve.

And before anyone flames me; I am not against the NDA, I just think there could be more benefits for the money it costs to join.

I think it would be a great idea to start up another association.
