Default Demolitions scholarships and grants?

My neice Kayla will be graduating high school as class valedictorian in May and has been accepted into University of Missouri Rolla in their Mining and Engineering department. Kayla will be pursuing an engineering degree with a minor in explosives engineering.

The explosives engineering minor requires completion of 15 credit hours of work, achieved through the following courses: basic explosive engineering (quarry and surface mining), advanced blasting (underground, surface and construction blasting), environmental controls of blasting, instrumentation for explosives in blasting, tunneling and underground construction, commercial pyrotechnics and the demolitions class. The program also offers special topics courses and opportunities for individual research.

The academic side of the house isn't a problem for her - she holds a 4.0 GPA...it's the financial side. Her parents make just enough money to disqualify her most federal aid, but not enough to pay for her college. She works part time after school and on weekends, but that's just not enough to pay tuition. Does anyone out there know of any demolitions companies that offer scholarships or grants to students pursuing such degrees?

Thank you so much for your help!

You may want to check with the National Demolition Association. I know that they have scholarship programs, but I believe most of them the student must be nominated by a demolition contractor.

I would start there first and see what they say. Let me make a couple of phone calls and I will see what I can find out on my end with some others and maybe some others here know of more places.
