We are a little different. Most of our jobs are private but the bulk of our revenue is public. The public work tends to be larger revenue wise. The private work usually has a smaller contract amount but is more profitable. Then there are projects where we are working as a sub to a private contractor on a Federal project.
Looking at the big picture revenue wise (revenues coming from all sources) we are about 80% public - 20% private.
As far as my demo work goes, it's 90/10 private/public. On the c&d recycling front, right now we are all private; it's hard to get southern minicipalities to think real recycling.
You guys are right where you want to be. I see so many contractors just focus on public works and all that does is "kill" ya.
Most of the time you are competing with 4 or 5 other demolition contractors, then you have 5 to 10 General Contractors that you have to deal with and of those only 3-4 of them are serious about the project.
