Default Do you guys pay mileage to your staff?

If so how much? Do you give the IRS limit?

Or do you just pay them a flat rate for car/truck expenses?

I pay mileage (to myself as well) at the IRS rate if the round trip is over fifty miles.

So what do you do under the 50 miles? A flat rate or "eat it"

My son-in-law, the bean counter says 32 cents per mile is all you're allowed. We charge between 50 cents and $1.00 for mobilization. I'm told you depreciate the vehicle on mileage and shouldn't have to "eat it" for any mileage. It would be to your advantage to part with the money for under 50 miles too! It's $16.00!

We have a cap of 300 miles for personal vehicle use. We get .425 per mile under the 300 mile cap.

I figure fifty miles is a reasonable local round trip commute for most people in the construction/demolition industry. If we have to travel more than that it will generally involve an over night stay. I have to draw the line somwhere and that seemed fair. Circumstance do alter cases though, if one guy is carrying a carpool I will pitch in for wear and gas. I'm small enough that I can be flexible.

Is that right? Well for people that get paid the max for mileage and they way gas prices are now, it will be a nice welcome.
