Default Satisfying Work Doing Demo

What is the attraction about demolition?

What is it that got you into it in the first place, and what is it that's so appealing now?

Do you find that it is satisfying work?

Is it the crashing and crunching? the satisfaction of clearing land and lots? the money? enjoy running the heavy equipment?

Interested in your stories.

I have said it before and still to this day think demolition is one of the most satisfying lines of work.

Where else can you go places most people never seen?

I have also been attracted to it, my family was not in the demolition or construction industry at all or even close to it. I think it goes back to the days when I saw my old school getting torn down and the operators were laughing and having a good time.

Also I loved “blowing-up” my GI Joes; if they ever do an archeological dig at my old house it will make the news.

Great story, James.

I hated school too, so I can imagine how happy it made you to watch your old school getting torn down and the operators were laughing and having a good time.

What kind of equipment were they using? Did you talk to them and did they show you around the equipment and jobsite? Great way to get someone started in the industry. If they only knew. . .

Awesome story.

James, you remind me of when I was a kid and building Snaptite models of cars, then stuffing them with sterno gel and staging horriffic crashes. could be there's something in the genes?

I gotta say, I love to use a torch. I think burning steel is my all time favorite part of the job.

They were using a couple of dozers along with some cables to basicully pull down the building. I didn't get to walk around because there was a fence all they way around the property.

James:

Demo with cables is really hard core. It's total destruction, just using those raw steel cables to rip the buildings apart, smash through the wall and put the building on the ground. How old was the school that they demo'ed that way?

Default Thrills of Demolition

I have demolished many, many structures in every imaginable situation. I've blown down over a 1,000 structures, tripped some pretty hairy ones and dismantled them too! I always reminisce about how I was able to work on the job when I was 12 years old! How I accidentally burned down structures for my Dad and took houses down by hand. Starting my own company at 19 was pretty gutsy.

The thrills come from seeing your children reap the rewards of hard work passed down...that's right...hard work! We just tripped 5-150' stacks off of a 125'tall powerhouse. My 20 year old son said " dad, this was more fun than implosions ". He had a sincere look of being thrilled. Of course making 20k for the work was quite rewarding also, thank God.

I'm sure us seniors in the business could go on and on!
