Thread: Compliance with new EPA lead paint regs

Curious as to what others think or are doing in regards to the EPA reg that comes online this April that will effect schools built prior to 1978. Looks like a can of worms or more half baked goverment intervention, Honestly I think they would protect our children from the dangers of lead better if they simply banned toys from China!

We are sending everyone to the EPA class. We do a lot of environmental work so it isn't going to have a large impact.

The application for the certification from EPA is downloadable and fillable on line. It is really an easy application.
It does not apply to just schools. The term they use is child occupied facility and target housing.
Classes are sprouting up at most training providers, I find you just have to make sure they are EPA approved.

Conforming to April 22nd Lead Law
Thought I'd post a message here for anyone who needs assistance with equipment needed and or answers to conforming to the new lead law.

As I understand it, there is no "dictation at what level" to abate lead.
But any amount of lead would need to be addressed based on the new reg's going into effect.
According to your XRF readings those levels are high and I would investigate a little further.

It is a very rigerous certification process, fill out the aplication, stick it in an envelope with a fat check for the EPA and you are certified!
