Default Remove 2" of concrete SOG

We are working on a project where the concrete floor varies about 5" from one side of the building to the other. In one particular area, about 1200 sf, they would like to remove about 2" from the 6" slab on grade.

I plan on setting the depth of a concrete saw 2" and making a checker board out of it and chipping away. Does anyone have any other ideas?

This one doesn't sound like much fun. The 4" remaining will look pretty ugly and be weakened from the chipping. I would vote for full depth removal and pour back with only 1200 sqft.

Obviously my opinion isn't worth a darn if you have special site conditions, i.e. contamination, difficult location, war zone, lunar surface, etc.

Good Luck,
Rick

We used a Marcrist Floor Shaver. I think we got 120 sf per hour. Each pass was 1/8 " You can dial it up deeper. We had contaminated concrete so we only did 1/8" at a time.

I think off the top of my head our cost was in the $1.4 to $1.45 /SF

Once the first 2" of concrete is removed they will be pouring gyp-crete over the floor to level the entire area (roughly 15,000 sf) so im not terribly worried what the end product looks like. It can be rough to a point.

I will look into that floor shaver.

I appreciate all the insight!

I was gonna say the same as Nuke, there are some shavers that can take up to 1/2" each pass. That maybe the way to go.

We cut 600 sq.ft. down 1/8 to 1/4" with 2-8" planer/scarifiers in a day.
Most important:
Start with the right gear- If you are going to run 2 machines you will need a 30kw generator set-up with spider boards to the work area and then connect the machines to the boards.
Superior in Southbury has all the equipment

Check the depths of rebar! Otherwise you may eat up a lot of teeth. Just keep in mind how deep your running.

Where do you purchase a Marcrist Floor Shaver? I cannot find it online.
