Hello, my name is Kyle. I am a Senior in high school and it is a graduation requirement to do a large project about any topic that I am interested in. I have chosen to do my project about demolition. My biggest worry for this project is the physical project requirement. I thought that the best physical project for this topic would be to create scale models of a 20-story building out of balsa wood and create small implosions that I could destroy on my presentation day. I found this forum during my research for model making and information on implosions and I was hoping that someone could point me in the right direction for information that would be helpful.
I also need to find books and recent magazine/newspaper articles about demolition. One book that I found on Amazon.com is called Rubble:unearthing a history of demolition. Does anyone have any other good books or resources that could help me with my research paper?
Don't worry, the deadline for all of this isn't for a few months, I am just trying to get a head start. Any help is appreciated.
I am not doing this project just for an excuse to blow stuff up; I will be going to NC State next year to major in engineering, so I am genuinely interested in construction and demolition. This project may help me decide what I want to study and my career path for the future.

Looks like your heading on the right direction. We do have a Industry News section here that pretty much keeps up with the what's happening in demolition industry and the upcoming projects.
The National Demolition Association has a magazine that comes out on a monthly basis for articles about demolition, and the is also another magazine, Construction and Demolition Magazine Recycling that may also help you in your research.
The Rubble book, I have it, but haven't looked at in awhile, I will have to look at it again.
But what may help out the most is the members of the forum here, their knowledge and background is much more in depth then you would ever read in an article or a book.
The first thing that I need to determine with my topic is what part of demolition I should focus on. My research paper needs to be an arguing some point. What do you all think? My first argument about demolition that I thought of is why implosions are used instead of wrecking balls, bulldozers, etc. I have briefly read that after the first skyscrapers in big cities began to get run down and damaged beyond repair, there needed to be a way to level a whole building onto its foundation where it could be cleaned up easier.
This direction with my paper would allow me to focus on the science of an implosion (which is what I really enjoy) and also how the technology behind the implosions have changed over the years. Does anyone have any experience with implosions in the field? How does anyone decide to use explosives rather than other means (wreaking ball, bulldozer, sledge, etc)? Is there anything else I should investigate with my research? Once again, any advice is greatly appreciated!
