City Saddled with Delco Demolition
The city of Rochester, NY is getting stuck with the cost of demolishing an abandoned factory.
In the fall, the city will tear down parts of the old AC Delco site.
In 2003 a seven alarm fire gutted most of the site. It will cost the city $850,000 to demolish what's left of the factory. It’s a tab the city will have to pick up, because the city can't locate the owners who abandoned the site.
"It has to come down it's a threat to the neighborhood. It's a process. It usually takes a while. But we will demolish it in the fall," said Julio Vazquez, Commissioner of Community Development.
After that massive fire three years ago, firefighters have responded to several fires at the site. The most recent one was just last week.
