Default Bid To Demolish Wintergreen Comes In Below Estimate

The city of Omaha has accepted a bid to demolish a condemned north Omaha apartment complex.

A number of metro-area contractors bid on the demolition contract for the WintergreenPark apartment complex near 51st and Curtis streets. City officials said Andersen Excavating won with a bid of just over $490,000. That's about $500,000 less than the next lowest bid, and $100,000 less than what the city expected to pay.

The process now moves to the City Council, which votes April 25 on whether to award a demolition contract to Andersen. If the council gives the green light, Andersen could begin demolition work as early as next month.

The Wintergreen apartments were condemned last summer due to building code violations
