I have seen union and non-union that have the 30 hr osha and 40 hr haz woper training and just as many that don't on both sides. It is the owner and their reps responsibility to review the safety procedures as well as the part 29 eng survey that identifies hazards and ways to remediate those potentially dangeroous situations..

Union/non-union, it's still someone not coming home after work.

I work for a non-union contractor and we are all either 10 or 30 hour trained. Just because a company is non-union does not mean they do not know what they are doing. Here is Las Vegas several people died last year on construction projects and they were all at union projects.

I am sorry for the family of man who lost his life and give my condolence.

Agreed. It does not matter whether union or non-union. I have worked with both in the past. It is a very unfortunate tragedy and an unnecessary loss of life. My condolences to the family and coworkers.

It doesn't matter Union or not, Safe practice is always top priority. We were all apprentice at one point in time. We always learned from what happened and make sure to keep and eye on our guys. May his soul rest in piece.

John A Jr is 100% correct there r way too many fly by night outfits out there and i feel its gives the rest of us a bad name.... Just cause people have their OSHA card dosnt mean they work safe.. Every demo job should take 5 every morning and go over the demo plan for the day, that helps with some of the discressions on the job but sometimes an accident is an accident and there is no way to prepare for it....

Here we go with the Union/Non-Union garbage! A human life knows no association. Safety should be ingrained more than affiliation.
Canada has a pretty cool thing going with "the right to refusal". The law is good when people are put in an uncomfortable situation insofar as safety. It's bad when duffers use it as an excuse to get out of work though. 30 years of seeing "smash and dash" people has taught us how to bid it safe. If you don't get the job, life will go on. Of course there are certain inherent dangers with our business. One has to learn how to manage those risks. Experience seperates the good from the bad.
