Default Landmark Tower Implosion

The Landmark Tower in Fort Worth, Texas is going to imploded. Standing 380' tall this one will definitely be one to see. Following are some pictures of the ongoing preparatory operations.

That seems to be a pretty tight fit for an implosion, isn’t it? This one will definitely be one to look forward too. Date is set for March 18th. Still looks like a lot of work to meet that time frame.

An implosion is only limited by the area which can be used as a debris receptacle. I did a couple of takeoffs on this building but for the life of me, I can't remember how deep the basement is. The deeper the basement, of course, the more debris it can hold. Demolition debris ususally has an angle of repose of 2:1 but because of the steel construction this can vary a bit.
The Landmark Tower was the first highrise constructed in the US with an aluminum curtain wall. With aluminum scrap selling for .73/lb., somebody is loving life.

James,
That explains that. They have a 30 ft deep basement and are augmenting that with a 20 foot excavation adjacent to the building in which to catch the debris.

Come rain or shine, the Landmark Tower at the corner of Seventh and Houston streets will be imploded tomorrow morning.

And Fort Worth police is expecting about 10,000 spectators to show up to see the spectacle.

The 30-story skyscraper is scheduled to come down at approximately 8 a.m. The city will be closing off a 15-block safety perimeter beginning at 5 a.m. Saturday.

We will have video as soon as it becomes available.
