Default Seminole Twin Towers Set for Sunday

An Arkansas State University dorm complex is coming down.

Workers plan to implode the Seminole Twin Towers on Sunday morning.

The university is destroying the nine-story buildings so it can use the land to expand its facilities at a later date. In the meantime, the land will be left as green space.

The towers, which housed about 700 students, have stood for 40 years but were last in use in the 2005-06 school years. The university is updating its housing so its dorms are more like apartments, which is the trend across the country.

The 7 a.m. blast is to take 13 seconds, and then crews will spend the next couple of months clearing the debris.

A test blast is set for tomorrow morning.

Did you see the video? The Demo contractor says it is really 5 buildings because of the expansions joints. It looks like one to me.

Here's some links to video - looks like a nasty little bugger to me!

Not sure what is up with the sound on this one, but great shots of the pile after as well.
