Man facing 52 hazardous waste-related charges
An Abbotsford, B.C., man has been charged with failing to comply with handling, storage and management requirements for hazardous waste under environmental regulations. In all, he faces more than 50 charges.
The charges came after Edward Ilnicki's company — Valley Demolition and Design and Repair —allegedly failed to comply with orders issued by the Ministry of Environment arising from the storage of hazardous waste in Abbotsford and Langley.
"Ilnicki has also been charged with a variety of offences related to the operation of a hazardous waste facility," Dan Gilmore, a communications manager with the ministry, said in a news release Saturday.
The 52 charges the ministry filed against Ilnicki include:
• 17 counts stemming from activities at Wheel Avenue in Abbotsford.
• 29 counts stemming from activities at Foy Avenue in Abbotsford.
• Six counts relating to activities at Gloucester Way in Langley.
Ilnicki is scheduled to appear in Abbotsford provincial court on May 29. He faces a maximum fine of $1 million or imprisonment for six months, or both, if convicted.
