Default Family's anger at demolition damage

A family from Greenock, Renfrewshire, UK, have blasted a demolition firm, claiming their cars were damaged by flying rubble.

Samuel Ross and his wife Margaret, of Kenilworth Crescent, are angry with JCJ Demolition after being left with an expensive repair bill.

He claims the damage was caused when rocks fell off a trailer.

The Glasgow firm is currently clearing bulldozed rubble from the Kenilworth estate, but Mr Ross believes their workers are not securing trailers properly.

Mr Ross told the Tele: “I am continually picking up rocks from the road. My Mercedes was damaged first. It has a dent on the bonnet and a chipped windscreen. I was going to forget about it and just get the repair done — until we had another car damaged.”

In the second alleged incident, just days after the first, the Vauxhall Zafira of Mr Ross’s granddaughter, Angela, had its windscreen cracked.

Mr Ross said: “She had gone to the shops at Murdieston Street and saw rubble being taken down from Kenilworth to Hole Farm Road when she came back and parked. She went out again later and saw the windscreen cracked, with a rock lying on top of the bonnet.”

Repair work will run into hundreds of pounds and Mr Ross’s granddaughter is unable to use her car to travel to Glasgow, where she works.

Mr Ross claims that demolition vehicles have also caused damage to pavements by mounting them to get past parked cars.

He said: “I phoned the company after talking to the guys on the site. I want them to pay for the car damage. This happened at least six weeks ago. They are just not interested.”

After receiving no positive response the couple pursued the matter with Inverclyde Council, who hired the contractors.

Mrs. Ross said: “Every time I go in to pay my rent I ask and have been told I will receive a letter. We can’t get an answer from anyone.”

A spokesperson for Inverclyde Council said: “Our contractor has spoken to the Ross’s and will give details to allow them to submit a formal claim.”
