Here's a link to some work done by one of the Physic's faculty filming it - pretty cool, regular time, slo-mo, and in reverse. Physicist are a weird bunch!

Probably not very. But with the media circus that comes with an implosion it may help them obtain additional funding.

Probably more cost effective then trying to trip it, have that go wrong, go back in and weld all the columns back together, then go back in and burn it again to shoot it.
