Default Car flattened by wall during demolition

(Australia) A car has been flattened during demolition work on the Cameron Offices at Belconnen in Canberra's north-west.

Witnesses say the wall fell on to the car just after 2:00pm, No one was injured. The incident provided some lunchtime entertainment for public servants working in the area.

"It had been hanging for about two hours and the guys had been trying to knock it down and then all of a sudden it collapsed on the car and smoke went everywhere," a witness said.

The complex was designed in the 1960s by the Australian architect John Andrews and won worldwide acclaim through a listing on the Union of International Architects Heritage register.

Demolition work began late last year despite concern about the building's heritage value. The construction union says it has been obvious for two weeks the demolition of the building was not safe.

Sarah Schoonwater from the Construction, Forestry, Mining and Energy Union (CFMEU) says she pointed out the problem to WorkCover a fortnight ago.
She says so far there has been no response, even after today's accident.
"We've tried to contact WorkCover today and it appears nearly everybody's on leave," she said.

The ACT Government says an investigation has begun.

A picture is worth a thousand words. Why would anybody park near a wall that is going to be pulled?

If that was my job site I would have had that car towed or taped off that area if the wall was at risk for falling.
