Default Wrecking Corp Razes Home of the Legendary T.C. Williams Titans

Wrecking Corporation of America, which has provided demolition services to major industrial, commercial, and government clients in the Washington DC, Virginia, and Maryland metropolitan areas for more than 30 years, will complete demolition of the old T.C. Williams High School early in 2008. The school and its champion 1971 football team became known nationwide when the movie "Remember the Titans" told the story of how the team and its coaches defied the odds to become state champions.

The project, which involves razing more than 300,000 square feet of the three-story concrete school, has taken place alongside the new T.C. Williams school, which opened to students in September. Demolition was scheduled in three phases: the Sports Barn and the Music Wing, both of which have been completed; and the main building, which is in progress.

"Since we've been working just a few yards away from the new school, our first concern has been for the safety of the students and others in the area," said Terry Anderson, Wrecking Corp executive vice president. "With heavy equipment on site, and trucks coming and going, it's important to remain vigilant. Fortunately, Wrecking Corp has a great deal of experience working in cramped urban areas and is skilled in the dealing with the unique challenges such projects present."

The demolition, originally contracted for completion by September, was held up by the discovery of unforeseen quantities of asbestos that required extensive abatement throughout the building. The general contractor for the project is Hensel Phelps Construction Company of Alexandria.

I am sure they will get some up soon. I am on the west coast, so the pictures I would take would be very small.
