Demolition company faces illegal dumping fine
A Somerset, England based demolition company has had to pay over £43,000 (aprox. $87,000) after illegally dumping controlled waste.
LA Moore of Old Railway Yard, Haybridge, Wells, Somerset, admitted three offences, two of depositing waste without a waste management license and one of not having the necessary transfer notes and proper paperwork for moving waste.
The waste was dumped on farmland at Shepton Mallet and at their premises at the Old Railway Yard at Wells.
Sue Everett for the Environment Agency said: "Over the past few years, the Environment Agency has provided LA Moore with a lot of advice on how to handle the wastes generated by their demolition business. Despite continued guidance and advice on the right way to conduct their business LA Moore ignored this advice and continued to operate illegally."
"When we visited their yard, there were piles of rubbish which should have been handled and disposed of correctly in order to protect the environment and public health. We are pleased that the court took strong action today. If they're storing, transporting or disposing of waste, they must hold a waste management license and rigidly adhere to the terms of it."
