Demolition Begins for Haddon Township Development Project
A demolition project is beginning in Haddon Township, NJ that will finally eliminate a Haddon Avenue eyesore. The former Dy-Dee Diaper Service plant and two adjoining buildings are coming down.
The demolition clears the way for a project known as Towne Center at Haddon, which will include 200 residential units and 25,000 square feet of retail space.
Mayor Randy Teague says this is happening in the heart of the Westmont business district:
"It’s the first step in rejuvenating our downtown area. It was a vacant, contaminated site that’s been there for over 20 years.”
Teague hopes that since the development is near the Westmont Patco station, the townhomes will attract young people who work in Philadelphia:
"We’re hoping to get professionals to purchase the units who maybe work in Philadelphia and can take the Speedline. They are going to be two-bedroom units, and I believe at this point the sales price is anywhere from the low 300s to the mid 400s.”
