Anderson grants permit for Guide factory demolition
General Motors plans to demolish the Guide Corp. factory that shut down this year in Anderson, IN.
Michael Widing of the city’s Department of Municipal Development issued a demolition permit for the work, and he said asbestos removal will start soon. The demolition will take up to 18 months, the Herald Bulletin of Anderson reports.
City officials say the Guide site includes several buildings that date back to the 1920s and more than 2 million square feet of space. Demolishing all that will make cleanup and planning for the site easier.
Pendleton-based Guide, a GM spinoff, stopped production at the car light factory in January. It employed more than 1,000 workers when Guide announced the closing last year.
