Demolition starts at factory fire site
Demolition work has started on the former Birds Eye factory in Grimsby, UK a week after it was gutted by fire.
The plant in Ladysmith Road was declared unsafe after the blaze last Wednesday night. Two teenagers have been questioned on suspicion of arson.
Contractors began work to tear down the wreckage of the building after receiving the go-ahead from the Health and Safety Executive.
Ladysmith Road will remain closed for up to three weeks.
The footpath on Ladysmith Road is also likely to be closed during the day to ensure public safety while the demolition is carried out.
North East Lincolnshire Council said its officers had "pulled out all the stops" to ensure the speedy demolition of the building.
Council leader Andrew Freitas said: "This is particularly good news for residents nearby and all those who use Ladysmith Road regularly as they can see progress is now well and truly under way."
About 80 firefighters were involved in the operation to tackle the fire.
A 19-year-old man from Cleethorpes and a 15-year-old boy from Grimsby were arrested last Thursday and later released on bail.
