County OKs demolition, asbestos cleanup of Seminole Mills
Aiken, SC County Council has unanimously approved a contract for asbestos cleanup and demolition at the 26-acre Seminole Mills site in Clearwater.
Awarding the contract to NEO Corporation was on the Council's Tuesday consent agenda.
In May, the Environmental Protection Agency announced it had awarded two grants to Aiken County totaling $400,000 – half of that amount will be used to perform environmental assessments at the Clearwater Finishing site and the other half will be used to clean up Seminole Mills.
The asbestos in the existing structure will be removed, the building itself torn down and the County plans to erect a fence and mow grass at the site.
