Demolition Begins Today At Site Of New Arena
For months, talks went back and forth on whether a new arena for the Penguins would be built here in Pittsburgh, but today, the first steps to building that new structure will be put in motion.
Demolition is set to begin today on the site of the Penguins’ new arena.
It will be built right across the street from the team’s current home, Mellon Arena.
The architectural firm called HOK, which also worked on plans for PNC Park and Heinz Field, is working with Pens on the plans for the new multi-purpose arena.
The new arena will hold 18,500 seats, which is 1,500 more than Mellon Arena has now.
Allegheny County Executive Dan Onorato and Mayor Luke Ravenstahl are expected to help get the demolition started
