Carlisle Smokestack set for 8 a.m. 2/24/2007
As the 167-foot-tall smokestack at the old Carlisle Hospital site “drops” Saturday morning, courtesy of 20 small blasts, police chief Steve Margeson said officers will be on hand to keep curious onlookers in check.
About 15 to 30 minutes before the scheduled demolition starts at 8 a.m., Margeson said, police will close the streets surrounding the site to traffic. Officers and volunteer firefighters will be posted around the site to keep people the proper distance from the blasts.
Perry Heath, director of business development for R.S. Mowery & Sons Construction Company, said the safety zone is set up approximately 175 feet in diameter around the blast site. The demolition is to by done by Demtech Inc., a firm out of Wyoming with more than 32 years of demolition experience.
