Pennsylvania Hotel May Be Slated for Demolition
New York's historic Pennsylvania Hotel might be slated for demolition. A report by Grubb & Ellis, says the real estate firm Vornado Realty Trust plans to replace the 1,700 room hotel with a 2.5 million square foot office building by 2011.
The 87 year-old hotel was said to be the world's largest hotel until the late 20s. Its ballrooms played host to legendary jazz artists including Duke Ellington and the hotel itself was the subject of Glenn Miller's hit "Pennsylvania 6-5000". A Vornado spokesman declined to comment on the report.
