Default Metals stolen from demolition site

One thousand pounds of industrial copper wire and an aluminum parking lot light worth $4,000 were stolen last week from the old Eagle Food Store in Galesburg, IL.

The building is owned by Christopher Johnson of Johnson Building Systems Inc. He sold the building to Neese Harley-Davidson and is tearing down the old building as part of the sale. Brown Excavating is halfway through the demolition.

Johnson and Timothy Brown of Brown Excavating told police at 8:55 a.m.

Friday they noticed materials were missing on Monday. They said Tuesday and Wednesday nights more copper wire and one of the four light poles from the parking lot also had been taken. They found a ladder in the part of the building that was demolished and lead poles that contained the copper were pried from the ceiling and the copper removed. They also found two empty Mountain Dew cans in the building.

An employee of Galva Iron and Metal reported that large amounts of industrial copper wire had been bought from customers in recent transactions.

Great advice, it is getting bad where that seems to be your only option.

My neighbor works for a mechanical contractor, they had their storage container broken into about 2 weeks ago and the stole about $5000 dollars worth of copper.

The next night the people came back and stole all the copper that they had installed in the ceiling. They even had time to strip of the insulation and they made a nice pile in the corner. It was a tilt-up and easy access.
