A house on Rosewood Avenue in Daytona Beach Fl, long considered a nuisance by police because of non-stop drug dealing, was demolished Wednesday morning much to the delight of neighbors who were tired of unlawful activities at the residence.

The structure, described as a crack house by police, has given officers a headache since at least 1989 because of all the trouble there, Daytona Beach Sgt. Craig Buth said.

Buth said the former residents of the house paid for the demolition -- sort of.
"We used money from the Police Department's seized drug money fund to pay for it," Buth said Wednesday. "So the people who used that house paid for the demolition."

Normally, the money to demolish such a problem property would come from the city's code enforcement division, Buth said. But because the division had depleted its budget, Police Chief Mike Chitwood authorized using the Police Department's seized drug money fund for the $2,300 tear-down.

The Police Department's SWAT team was also on hand to practice some of its tactics and use its equipment, Buth said.

"We routinely do that anytime we demolish a house," Buth said.
