Default Demolition Crew Knocks Down Wrong Wall

Shoppers at a Beaumont, TX Mall say it sounded like an explosion.

A demolition crew tearing down the former Dillard's department store for women accidentally knocked down the wrong wall Tuesday afternoon.

Nobody was hurt. Shoppers and some store employees say the loud noise sounded like an explosion and had some of them running in the opposite direction because they weren't sure what was happening.

Late Tuesday afternoon crews were working to repair the damage which left a hole in an interior wall of the mall.

Mall officials say the area has already been secured and will not pose problems for people planning to shop at Parkdale Mall.

Early in my demo career I had a stairwell collapse into the back of a knitting shop, it was not a good day. I had argued with the owner and his "engineer" about the stability of the section and wanted to hand demo it to a safe level. The owner wanted it to stay because he had just paid a roofer 3000 to fix the roof of the stairwell. Luckily I put my objections in the form of a certified letter to the owner and I was not held accountable. It cost him about 7000 in repairs to the shop owner.
