Default Containment Dome Demolition

I guess this is proof positive that blasting isn't the way to go. It is taking half the amount of time to demolish the dome at CT Yankee than it did to just prepare the dome at Maine Yankee for explosives demolition. It is also costing about 1/5 as much.

Nuke,

Welcome to the forum!

Unfortunately your link isn't working. I did a search but I couldn't find the story.

The broken link was a description of the process published in the Hartford Courant. If you want to see pictures check out our website.

I have used this age old method in Nova Scotia and abroad. It also works well on steel tanks. We did a 220' tall 1.4 million elevated water tank that way and the GC said "I never thought of doing the tank that way".
I did the job at Victoria Junction and they were amazed on how fast a silo can come down using this method.
Fact: It does save time and money and should be done by experienced persons!

The beauty of it is that you start generating debris at Day 1 so that it can be processed. You don't have all the down time while the structure is drilled and the protection is placed. After the dome at Maine Yankee was blasted it still had to still be mechanically broken up.
With this method there was no disruption to the plant or to highway or boat traffic. And even better yet nobody had to deal with a Prima Donna subcontractor. At Maine Yankee we had crews ready to go at 7 AM and the blasters wouldn't show up before 10. You had high dollar crews sitting around with their thumbs up their asses for 3 hours or better.
