Default EMSL acquired Global Environmental Laboratories

EMSL Analytical Inc. acquired Global Environmental Laboratories Inc. in St. Louis for an undisclosed amount.

Westmont, N.J.-based EMSL provides asbestos, indoor air quality, industrial hygiene and environmental microbiology laboratory services and staffing. It has 10,000 clients worldwide and 25 labs nationwide.

Rob DeMalo, vice president of laboratory services for EMSL Analytical, said EMSL was interested in Global Environmental Labs because EMSL did not have a lab in Missouri. In addition, he said the St. Louis lab has a high-quality staff and is accredited in the industry.

Jeff Siria, vice president and chief operating officer, will remain with EMSL as laboratory director. He said the St. Louis lab will take the lead in food microbiology among EMSL's other labs, which have not focused on food microbiology

With the acquisition, Global Environmental Laboratories split its business into analysis, which was acquired by EMSL, and consulting. Ray Narconis, formerly president and chief executive of Global Environmental Labs, formed Global Environmental Consultants Inc. with the consulting part of the business. He will also serve as a consultant to EMSL Analytical, the companies said.
