Your idea is a good one. The concept is exactly what the Cyclone drop hammer is. Cyclone is now a product of Stanley/Labounty. You can buy them off the shelf for about $ 7,500. I own one and use it quite often. if you can retrofit yours for less than what is costs to purchase... Go for it!
