Default Nuprecon is merging with CST

Two of the largest demolition companies in the country are merging, creating the second-biggest player in the industry behind Penhall.

Snoqualmie-based Nuprecon and Brea, Calif.-based CST Environmental are combining operations in a deal orchestrated by the Seattle private equity firm Evergreen Pacific Partners.

Terms were not disclosed, but the combined company will have $210 million in annual revenue and more than 1,000 employees.

No layoffs are planned, and the existing executives of both companies will continue to run their respective divisions.

"Nuprecon and CST have core strengths and individual advantages that, put together, make both companies stronger," Nuprecon President John Hennessy said in a statement.

Nuprecon has a strong presence in the Pacific Northwest, while CST demolition and environmental remediation projects have been in the Southeast and in California.

Evergreen Pacific bought Nuprecon in July 2006 in part to help the company expand operations.

Its demolition projects include the Pentagon, Nordstrom headquarters, Roosevelt High School in Seattle and the Pasadena (Calif.) City Hall.
