Default Verizon FIOS

Well, Verizon finally got around to installing the fiber optic cable to my neighborhood. They actually have the stub at the end of our driveway which is about 1/4 mile long. When I read the paperwork on getting the service I was amazed that one of the conditions of the contract is that Verizon has to remove all your copper cable. It seems to me there is something patently wrong with that. I asked the Verizon phone people if they could just abandon the existing phone line but they said unequivecably that they couldn't.

Has anybody else run into this?
