First off I need to ask, have you ever done any demolition before? It’s just a question; I just want to get a little background.
To you first question, There is not really a “best” way to demo a house; it all depends on the condition of the structure and the best way to approach it.
You may remove one house, but the next one might have a total different set of circumstances. Like I said before, whether removing it my hand or machine started from the top down is the best way.

Lead Paint
Mercury
Fluorescent Light Bulbs
