neyc,
There are many demolition contractors that I know use Excel for their estimating templates. Excel is one of the most versatile spreadsheet programs out there. The best thing about using Excel is that when you bring a new estimator in most if not all knows how to use it. With Timberline or Primavera, it’s possible that you will have to spend sometime training that person. But you have to ask yourself is it worth the money?
One of the other problems with the other software is most are set-up for general contractors that use all or most of the CSI codes, although they can be set-up for a specific industry. I have looked at different estimating programs and still kept coming back to Excel.
If I am not mistaken some of the software companies give out free working samples. Check out their sites, but be prepared for the sales calls onslaught afterwards.
